The Ball is Set Once More
While I'm eating my lunch, I am quite busy too in browsing the channels of our TV, because I was really a TV addict ever.....since the world began. Lucky for me to spot channel 4, NBN the station owned by our president Gloria, and they are covering the first match in the prestigious Shakey's V-league competition. It's a inter-collegiate volleyball tournament sponsored by Shakey's every year, and now the league is on it's 5th year continuing to promote volleyball in the country. It was two years ago when I started watching volleyball games on TV and I believed it began after I watch the UAAP's season 69 volleyball tournament in Studio 23, where UST was crowned as the champion sweeping the Lady tamaraws from FEU. Ok, go back to the V-league, the match-up I watched this afternoon was between the UST, the team which I'm rooting for since they won last UAAP season 69 and the lady Blazers from College of St. Benilde. I was really happy that UST finally made it in the second conference of the 5th season of the league. They weren't able to join last first conference due to some technicalities along side with de la Salle..but now these both three-time champion teams are making their comebacks in the league and trying to bag their 4th title in the league, which I hope UST would get(bias?).
Of course, being the champion last season, UST has managed to acquire their first win from CSB in four sets but I feel kinda disappointed with the team's line-up. Yes, the power hitters Bernal and Balse were there together with the crowd-favorite setter Tan, Maizo is back but another crowd-favorite and open hitter is missing.....Angeli Tabaquerro is nowhere to be found in the court. For my point of view, her absence could make their line-up a bit weaker since she's also a power hitter and the third scorer in their team next to Bernal and Balse, and a very defensive player whenever she's in the back line. Filling her spot are the three rookies which have the potential to score points but not as strong as Tabaquerro. I really don't have any idea why she was not able to play this time but I am still hoping she'll come back next year and in this coming UAAP in December and that UST will bring home the crown.
Let's wait two more months to find out what would happen......

UAAP's Funniest Moments
UAAP, the last post's topic is one of the things that flashed on my mind when I am on that statue mode couple of minutes ago. Watching basketball games wasn't my interest before, but as I scrutinized myself lately, I slowly become ho
oked in watching such games. I believed it started when I watched the last NBA finals where Celtics won over Lakers, and since then, I began watching other basketball games like the Olympics and the UAAP. Though my school is part of the UAAP, I don't find myself to fancy seeing basketball matches in the past seasons, but now is a less different, the word 'less' being emphasized for though I watch basketball games now, I still don't consider myself to be a basketball fanatic. But the recently UAAP season's final interests me a lot, because it's a La Salle-Ateneo match and so I must see it no matter what...and I did yesterday, the Eagles have won. There's a sports event in the UAAP where I always see to it that I won't miss it. I'll just going to reveal it later on my next posts because I am going to write one about that before that particular sports event starts. Now, that 71st season of the UAAP is about to end- actually it's too early to say it's near to end, for there are still five remaining months before the official closing, I just wanna share what I read on a Candy magazine, August issue about the happy candid moments it captured during the UAAP basketball days. It's about the funny things experienced by the supporters or fans of different UAAP-participating schools every basketball games in the Araneta.
Take a look on their stories, you might as well remember that you were once in on the same hilarious situations they've been through.........

I was once picked to be the Kamiseta Girl for a UAAP game. I was so psyched that I forgot to check how I look in front of the mirror. While the camera was rolling, the cameraman kept on pointing at his teeth. I though that meant for me to smile wider so I did. After that shot, he went up to me and said, "Miss, may hotdog ka sa ngipin." I immediately checked, and true enough, a chunk of meat from my hotdog sandwich was stuck in between my teeth!
Secret Love:
I was rooting for the Green Archers but had a huge crush on one of the players from Ateneo. While I was watching one of their intense games, my crush made a 3-point shot and looked totally cute. I couldn't contain myself and let a loud cheer!Everyone beside me gave me pissed-off looks! I wanted the ground to swallow me up alive.
------Marge, 20
Falling For You:
After the game between UE Warriors and UP Maroons, I approached a player who happened to be my crush. I asked him if we could have our pic taken. He gladly agreed and even asked me to stand beside him. As I excitedly strolled towards him, I stepped on a wet spot and fell flat on my face. I turned bright red and couldn't speak!------Janie, 18
For The Pee-rst Time:
I had never watched a live UAAP game before. With my incessant pangungulit, my brother finally agreed to take me to one. In the middle of the game, I felt the urge to go to the bathroom. Since I didn't know where the restrooms were, I asked my brother to take me, but he told me to wait for a time-out. I couldn't hold it in any longer so I peed right then and there.
------Rejeane, 14
Tag, You're It!:
At a game, there were kids behind us who were super kulit. I was getting annoyed because they are incredibly noisy and kept running back and forth. At first, I didn't mind them, but when the other kid used a water gun to play, I abruptly stood up and asked them to stop. After my short sermon, the naughty kid splashed water on my face and ran away!
------Addine, 18
Spit It:
My bestfriend is such a clown! While watching one of the UAAP games, he kept making faces and stupid comment on our opponent's play. While I was drinking my iced tea, he made a really funny face and I ended up spitting my iced tea on the girl in front of me. You could guess how mad she was at me!
------Alexis, 22
I had an upset stomach while watching the Ateneo-La Salle game last season. i tried to make myself feel better so I could enjoy the game. I took the medicine my boyfriend bought me and soon, the pain started to lessen. But at the half time, I farted so loudly and it smelled so bad! I tried to cover it up but my boyfrined couldn't stop laughing.
------Yuko, 19
Busted!:
My friend had great seats for the Ateneo-La Salle game, but unfortunately I was grounded. My friends talked me into lying and sneaking out. I did just that and my mom believed that I was in school doing group research. We were seated just behing the sports commentators' table, and TV cameras were all around us. Upon arriving home, my mom was furious with me! She taped the game for me and actually saw me on TV.
------Marco, 17
Hush!:
I'm a bi
g fan of Ateneo team and I make it a point to watch all of their games. For a game against UST, tickets were sold out. I wanted to watch so badly that I bought a ticket to a seat on the side of the opposing school. At the game, I was so frustrated that I couldn't cheer loud enough because I was so blueamidst the yellow and black. i began mocking the other schools's cheer, which was originally "Go, go tigers, the mighty, mighty tigers!" I started shouting "Go, go lions!" Then people started shooting me angry looks! So I spent the remaining time watching the game quietly.------Frustrated Blue, 22
I really found myself laughing while reading the article. It's humiliating when you found yourself in hilarious situations where first of all you never dreamed to be in-when almost all the people around you staring, laughing making fun at your poor condition and it's even worse when you discovered that your mortifying act was caught in camera and being watched by millions of TV viewers. After that, you'll just find yourself hiding in your room, avoiding any close contact from anyone who has witnessed your "scandal" and having a busy time listing that event under your most embarassing moment in your friend's slambook... :-)
PS
I wasn't lying about the fact that I got this article from the August issue of the Candy magazine, but if you're wondering that you didn't read about it on the same magazine and speculating that I might be not telling the truth, I just forgot to mention that it was indeed an article from the Candy, but it was released on 2005. Ciao.

Eternal Rivals

Here's the continuation of my last post......Couple of weeks have passed after the victorious Cheerdance competition, the UAAP Basketball Finals seemed to be the next sought-after contest. Why not, the fact that the rival schools La Salle and Ateneo will fight against the championship title makes it a must-see match. Yeah....you heard me right, the rivalry will live once again after six long years in the heart of Araneta Coliseum. No doubt, bunch of respective supporters from the two universities wearing blue and green would fill the entire Araneta. It always happened everytime the two has a match, and it happened on the first game of the Finals last Monday, September 22.
Lasallians and Atenians crowded the Araneta, they're wearing shirts colored with their respective school's colors-either blue or green...as anticipated. Just a recap, for this entire season's elimination rounds, La Salle didn't manage to grab a win from the two matches against Ateneo. That fact would just aggravate the La Salle's hunger to win over Ateneo, but as I watched the game, as usual on TV, it didn't turned out to be that way. La Salle's fighting spirit is kinda low that they got intimidated by Ateneo's defense tactics. DLSU was less aggressive primarily because of ADMU's awesome defense. Blue-shirted players properly guarded the green-shirted ones, giving Maierhofer and Casio a hard time to shoot their goals. Casio is well-guarded by the eagles that he seldom throw his signature 3-point shots. On the other side, with excellent defense combined with fast-paced plays and points from Al-Hussaini, no doubt that Ateneo won the first game, giving them their 50% chance to snatch the title from the defending La Salle and the Archers need to be at their 200% on the second deciding game. It was plainly a game of high defense. Sometimes, defense can really won a match, Game 1 is a proof of that.
Unlike the first game, Game 2 was an extremely emotional one. Not the kind that would touch your sensitive heart to the point that would make you cry a river. The dominating emotion shown was primarily wrath, one of the seven deadly sins. The match was like a picture depicting a battle between hot-headed players, the one who gets more pissed-off wins. Player teasing the opponent's supporters, fans booing their rival school's players, player mocking a player of the other team, audience cheering louder than the opponent's cheer, player questioning the referee's call, coach confronting the referee about the call.....these are just some of the scenarios you could see on the game. You can't really avoid having this type of match especially if it's as crucial as this. Everyone was so emotional. Everyone's temper is at it's peak.....maybe above it's peak.?
The game starts with a call that the MVP Al-Hussaini has committed an offensive foul, which was immediately questioned by the player himself and coach Norman Black. After few plays, the referee again called a foul against the MVP, making his second foul on just the first quarter of the match. That's when Black threw his ID frustrated and do some talk to the official....whewww....What a flaring atmosphere the Aranet had that day!..as if I'm feeling the intense heat coming from our TV.....Al-Hussaini left the court because of early foul trouble....Eagles haven't earned a point yet for early part of first quarter, giving the Archers the advantage......but suddenly, La Salle began commiting fouls and some technicals were called against them....giving Ateneo the opportunity to tie the score. .....Though it was a MVP-less team, the Eagles somehow manage to surpass the Archer's points, making them ahead by a small lead. Ateneo's awesome defense make the La Salle's Maierhoffer and Casio a hard time to gain some score.......while Ateneo's Tiu, Baclao and Rookie of the Year Buenafe keep on collecting some points till their lead grows greater than 10............I think in 3rd quarter Ateneo continue to pull away from La Salle and Taft-based cagers are having a difficult time to chase the eagles's score as the referee begin calling foul against Casio and Maierhoffer. There was no quiet time in the match. Correct me if I'm wrong, I believed it was in the 4th quarter where Maierhoffer was forced to leave the court due to some technicalities. He allegedly point a "dirty finger" sign to someone, which is not clearly viewed in the 'replay'......It's really hard to see if he really did that gesture or not....the tape's too fuzzy but still the committee decided to take him out of the game. He then leaves the match disappointed...feeling that he lose the chance of helping his team defend their title. The match has to go on...and so it did. Ateneo brought back their MVP and grabbed the chance to take a bigger lead. The sizzling hot match finally ended. Ateneo has managed to snatch the Championship title from their rivals......giving them a time to party while leaving the La Salle grieving from their loss and having their eyes scorching to take their sweet vengeance next year.
Let's see what would happen next season..Will Ateneo has the capability to defend their title against their rival and sweep them again? or Will La Salle finally take the sweetest revenge from Ateneo?
PS
or will UP finally get to the top of team standings sweeping both La Salle and Ateneo?....is this a silly joke or what?..........that would never happen......ever!
Cheer UP
Here I am again, doing some garbage talk on this piece of crap called blog. Finding that I now have an ample time to write whatever shit that would hit my rarely-used mind. Writing something here would help me cope with this boredom I'm feeling this very moment, besides I had lots of news to share now which are supposed to be shared a couple of days ago but as I said, today is the only day that I have find time to drop by again. So I don't know if what I have to tell you now is still fresh and new to you.Due to the fact that it happened lots of days ago, I can't recall the day when I watched the UAAP cheer dance competition on TV. Call me poor for I can't afford to take a seat in the Araneta, I don't care, sometimes truth really hurts. But FYI, even if I had I don't think I would go there and catch the competition live primarily because I don't know when was it scheduled and the fact that my body is comprised of lazybones could justify me-not-being-there alone. I was just browsing the channel that afternoon when I saw it being telecast in Studio 23. I believed it was the De La Salle cheering squad who is performing that moment when I decided to stick my eyes on that channel. Lucky me, they were the first to perform giving me the chance to see all the participating universities' performances. And I do watch them all. If I'm not mistaken the order of performances is 1.DLSU, 2.UST, 3.UP, 4.FEU, 5.ADU, 6.NU, 7.ADMU, 8.UE....just correct me if there's something not on his proper place.
Wanna hear my comments on each school’s performance. Here it is...
DLSU - nothing extraordinary....looks like they're just rehearsing..
UST - good, but not that good...okay...last year was a lot better..
UP - OMG...fantastic, stunning, breath-taking performance, marvelous, magnificent...all possible positive adjectives written here......complaint?...love your own...but really it's the best...great new moves.....
FEU - left me hanging....waiting to witness any new moves but I feel kinda disappointed. I miss the 'Happy Feet' move last year...
ADU - most improved. good liftings and throwings.... literally, unexpectedly good
NU - don't have time to watch it....it made me shift to other channels..
ADMU - boring as always.....nothing spectacular.
UE - waste of my time...... the umbrella thing is the only good part, the rest..a crap.
No hard feelings present when I described their performances there. Don't feel indignant if your school got a criticism from me, that was just my perception of what I saw, you can give your own too but I assure you, you can criticize all the schools except yours and my UP for you also labeled it the best or if not, the second place ofcourse I already know that your school is the first for you. No more questions asked when they won again, two times in a row. UP's originality really rocks.!!!!..I liked when the green and red cloth cover the whole pep squad then couple of minutes later, the cloths were removed leaving the squad in the center in a fantastic statue post. And I liked it when they do that thing again but this time the whole squad exiting hidden on the cloths leaving their pom-poms on the floor arranged as letter U and P and a man posing as OBLE. It was totally hilarious seeing that guy who impersonates OBLE.
The show ends leaving me entertained and happy ofcourse. It's really timely that UP won the contest. By that, I'll feel satisfied that they won atleast one competition in the entire season 71 of UAAP. I am not saying that that's the only sports event in UAAP where UP managed to win, I am just not sure and I don't have any news that they won in any other sports events but I'm still hoping that they do. Just give it to UP, cheerdance is our territory, it's where we excels more. UST, UE,ADMU,DLSU already had the authority and the right to win a championship in basketball coz I can see that it's still a high mountain to climb for UP to get to the top of the team standings.....poor basketball team, I know there will come a time where we'll be on the no. 1 spot but I'm just not sure when will it happen....perhaps a decade later....why not......it's just 10 years from now:-)
PS
this post is purportedly long, my recap of Ateneo-La Salle final games should have been included here but after seeing it published in a messy way.....I don't know why, maybe I exceeded the limit of the number of words this entry could hold so I decided to incise it into 2 parts. The rivals' matches were briefly detailed on the succeeding post.

Don't Ask the Waiter

As I was saying, I can't let this post unposted? for this post....shut up..quit keep saying the word! (annoyed?)..ok..as I was saying this article should have been written here before for its medical significance. Let's now cut to the chase and go straight to the topic. I read an article on a health magazine my cousin has brought from Recto. It is entitled "Do They Practice What They Preach?.", a report about on do medical experts or doctors practice what they told to their patients to do. Specifically, it concerns more on whether they consider the foods they prescribed to their patients to eat, to be on their own meals or not. But as I read the article, I found that they do consider it, they really have a healthy diet which I wish I could have too.The writer interviewed three medical professionals. First a Cardiologist, who specializes on heart and cardiac muscles, second is a Diabetologist, who studies diabetes and the last is an Oncologist, the one who treats cancers. The writer investigates the three's diet.
**Antonio Sibulo, the heart expert among the three, said that their household doesn't go for meat, about 80 percent of what he eat is fish and vegetables. His daily meal is comprised of.....
>>>for breakfast, he prefer scrambled eggs minus the yolks. Do you know that egg's cholesterol is concentrated on the yolk? Along with this is a small amount of rice for his carbo supply.
>>>his lunch is just two spoonful of rice and vegetables.
>>>for merienda, he gives himself a license to break away from his low carbohydrate diet by treating himself in moderation to some puto seko or rice cake. He explained that he avoid cookies and processed foods for they are reach in transfatty acids. These acids cause coronary diseases. On weekends, he goes for kesong puti since it has lower cholesterol than any other types of cheese.
>>>his dinner is basically fish that is either fried in canola oil or olive oil or cooked in sinigang broth. He tries to avoid cake and too much sweets, preferring fruits for dessert instead.
>>>He said that he is not an apple or a banana person, his favorites are chico, atis and watermelon. His favorite drink is fresh melon that has been blitzed in juicer and taken straight up without sugar or milk.
>>>He also enjoys red wine, letting himself to take it three times a week. Studies show, moderate consumption of wine can offer cardiac protection.
>>>He prefer tea than coffee for it has a higher antioxidant properties. He doesn't use multivitamins and limits his sodium intake.
>>>"Cardiovascular disease doesn't happen overnight. It's a long process, a gradual build up of factors. You have to invest (in good nutrition habits) early in life. Hindi pwedeng pagdating ng 60 bago ka maguumpisa.", he said.
**The diabetologist, Ricardo Fernando also shared his dietary habits. Enumerated below are the dishes he took daily......
>>>He starts his day with a breakfast of bread that's thinly spread with peanut butter (no sugar added) or Cheese Whiz, perhaps an egg and a glass of juice, usually unsweetened pineapple.
>>>When going to his office, he practically run and don't use elevators.
>>>"Stay away from baboy, baka - all four-footed animals - mantika, taba, asukal at honey. That means avoiding butter, margarine, mayonaise, cheese and foods that are ginisa (sauteed) or pinirito (fried), as much as possible. Cooking oil should be used sparingly.", he warned.
>>> His dishes are either nilaga, sinigang, inihaw, pinakbet or pesa because he believed that once fats enter the body, they are broken into free fatty-acids (FFA). The pancreas cannot tell where the FFA came from, whether it's from the good, the bad or the intermediate, as they call it. Fatty-acids in big amounts are not good for the beta cells of Islets of Langerhans, the ones concerned with diabetes. Apoptosis could happen, meaning beta cells will die.
>>>He is particularly aversive to cooking by microwave. He stated that microwave produces oxidants. Even water is converted into H2O2, which is an oxidant. The number one culprit in the generation of cancer is microwave. It causes cancer, diabetes, hypertension, heart and kidney diseases. "Maraming kasalanan yan.", he exclaimed. He emphasized that sudden intense heat converts food, especially fats into oxidants. This method also applies to fast foods.
>>>What's on his menu most of the time is fish, vegetables and chicken, ideally the breast with its skin removed prior to cooking. He accompanies them with rice, restricted to one cup.
>>>His snacks could be as varied as a bowl of nilugawang manok, a reasonable amount of fruits, a serving of veggies such as singkamas and cucumber dipped in vinegar, a cup of sugar-free gulaman (his favorite) or a can of chocolate-flavored Glucerna.
>>>He takes Chinese green tea over coffee most of the time, in order to benefit from the ancient's drink anti-oxidant properties.
>>>He stressed out that dinner should always be the lightest meal of a diabetic. He consumes less than a cup of rice in the evening. Actually, it makes sense. It cuts down on calories on the last meal of the day since the succeeding waking hours is when the body expends the least amount of energy.
>>>Closing the interview, he said "The average Filipino when he dies is 68, according to NSO, so I treat my patients up to 68, so he still has good eyes, hindi siya nai-stroke, naba-by-pass, nada-dialysis and he still has two good feet. After 68, 70, they can choose to die early with complication or die later. It's a matter of their personal philosophy in life. Sabi nga sa akin ng pasyente ko na 90 yrs. old na, si Senator Salonga, iho, sa edad kong ito, wala ng bawal bawal. How else do you want me to die?."
**Romulo de Villa, the oncologist was the last one who give his piece. The details after this sentence are taken from him.....
>>>He begins his day by drinking two glasses of water. He explained that it hydrates the body and washes the digestive system. It's a healthy habit to do so one hour before breakfast, and preferably before every meal. One more thing he never misses to drink every morning is one of New Zealand's full-cream powdered milk. He elaborates that studies show that those who consume short-chain fatty acids--butyric acid--found in the cream of the milk have reduced risk of colon cancer. They nourish the lining of the colon and strengten it. 20 % of the fat from milk is butyric acid. Also another fat in the milk is conjugated linoleic acid, which is an anticarcinogenic.
>>>His breakfast is primarily mixed red and brown rice, plus two eggs, always boiled and never fried. "Avoid frying especially with unsaturated oils. Studies show that when you heat unsaturated oils, they turn into bad oil, lipid peroxide.", he exclaimed.
>>>He described his diet predominantly fruits and vegetables. He detailed that fruits and veggies promote the growth of healthy gastrointestinal flora, the good bacteria in the intestines feed on the fiber of fruits and vegetables, fermenting them in the process. When they do that, they generate butyric acid. The bifidus bacteria--lactobacilli--produce butyric acid and most of them reside in the colon keeping it healthy.
>>>He revealed that he would eat beef, but not pork, after discovering that while pork has unsaturated fats, its proportion of omega 3 to omega 6--the two types of unsaturated fats--is of an unhealthy proportion. Ratio should be 1:1 to 1:4, borderline is 1:6 but pork is 1:9.
>>>He also said that pork is more inflammatory because of the excess omega 6, which from what he knows in biochemistry, is more inflammatory than omega 3.
>>>To identify who has a higher fat quantity, beef or pork, he conducted a home-based experiment. He boiled a quarter kilo of each meat separately and bottled their broth. He found out, from the surface, mas malaki yung sebo ng beef, but when you look at the side--fat is not just the sebo, it's the oil--mas makapal yung oil sa pork and he did it twice to confirm.
>>>The writer discovered that shrimps and shellfish are not on de Villa's plate. According to the oncologist, these types of seafood, which live at the bottom of the river mouth where factories are positioned, are exposed to industrial waste products. Fish, such as salmon, is a healthier alternative. He prefers it cooked in water or sushi style.
That's it. I think I would close this blog writing just a few words from me since I noticed that this post seems to be the longest post I posted ever....(stop!!!, before I start using the word 'post' redundantly again!!).. Okay, I hope this one helped you somehow. For the easily-tensed and always mad high-blood people, for the not so-sweet one-footed diabetics, and for the nearly bald lumpy cancer patients..just a piece of advise from a caring citizen --very caring indeed!..I dare all of you to walk a mile on the three doctors' shoes respectively, and see what would happen....Maybe one day, on the road you'll observed that you are not the easily-tensed and always mad high blood person anymore but rather an optimistic and a cheerful one, you are no longer the not so-sweet diabetic for you already found the right spice that would sweeten your being but the fact that you still need to stand with just a foot and a saklay remains... atleast you knew that you wouldn't see yourself walking with your two bare hands or with a pair of saklay (thinking that I'll write a wheelchair here?...in your dreams, you don't have the money to afford one) in the near future for you have saved the only thing which keeps you standing still.(drama...), and lastly you are not the lumpy and nearly-bald cancer patient anymore, coz' you find yourself now stunningly beautiful without the aching lumps that you used to have, and alluring for possessing the long shining silky hair that you have aspired long ago.You could make your ultimate dream come to reality now..Go, get your hair ready..coz you are going to be the next sought-after hair shampoo commercial model-extra. Just kidding........
So the next time you eat on a classy restaurant, don't call the waiter for the menu, ask the doctor instead. Waiters would just present you all the scrumptious foods that would water your mouth most of which are hazardous to your own health. You can't blame them though, it's part of their job. I have nothing against waiters, it's just that I was trying to relate this post to it's title. Doctors on the other hand, would offer the healthiest meals to you, most of which are not delectable and not so delightful and enjoying to eat compared to the restaurant's. Some could turn your stomach upside down. That's true...I totally agree. But one thing is for sure, doing the latter would make you inhale more oxygen molecules for a longer period of time.
Okay I'll cut this crap, It's pretty longer than I thought it would be..We're getting away from the topic. Ciao.
Told you, just a few words... :-)
PS
Sorry for the adjectives used. Peace!!

0-LYMPICS
The Olympics held in Beijing, China this year has reached its end last Sunday, August 24 as I watched its
closing ceremony on the evening of the same day in Channel 9. RPN 9 made it possible for us here in the Philippines to witness the entire event. There are only some sports events there where I put my interest in. Watching almost all of the games the US Basketball Team has played seemed to be my only priority. The American team is comprised of Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Chris Paul and the others whom I don't know and whom I don't have a curiosity to know. Their team however, didn't meet my expectations as well as my brothers' for Kobe and Lebron played kinda off.... but nevertheless they still manage to defeat Yao Ming's China, Nowitzki's Germany and Pau Gasol's Spain and attain an unbeatable record of 7-0.
When I just find myself preparing to get ready to witness the Basketball Semifinals where US will face Argentina and Spain will go against Lithuania, unexpectedly, one man made the world halt revolving. He created a history so to speak. Michael Phelps' name become known to
everyone as all the news worldwide featured his great victory in swimming. He won not only one, not only two, but eight gold medals in swimming, the most number of medals an athlete has ever attained in a prestigious sports event as the Olympics. His triumph made a new world record. He is now the Olympian who managed to get the most number of gold medals in Olympics and he holds seven world records in swimming. What the fuck!!!...sorry for the language..What kind of training does he had?...I don't wanna know, I'm pretty sure it has been too tough for him to undergo whatever kind of training he had. But all of the hardships he has experienced training..all of the things his 'perfectionist' coach has taught him...all of that were paid off. That created a second thought. I think his training is not that too diffucult as I described it to be, because if what I said before is true, then how come he ended up alive and kicking after being into a torture-like practice? right?....I guess I had a wrong impression on his coach...I hope so..Okay, going back to the Basketball Semifinals event, Pau Gasol's Spain won over Lithuania and the US Team outlasted Argentina. Marching to the Finals are the US and Spain Team. Like their other games, I see to it that I'll watch the Finals, and thank God I did. I can still recall that LeBron drew the first blood as he scored 3 points. Gasol, living to its role as the Spain's captain tied the score as he drove into the basket and scored 2 points gaining another basket throw for someone in the US committed a foul. The first quarter of the match was really a close fight, America having the slightest point advantage. Unfortunately, Kobe and Lebron were forced to moved out of the court for committing 2 fouls each at early time, leaving the game in the hands of Dwayne Wade and Chris Paul. The two however seemed to do their tasks while the two ace players were not in. Since they entered the court, they start to make points for their team, leading the US to have a greater point advantage than before. I believed it was in the third quarter when Kobe and Lebron go back. Correct me if not. I'm more willing to be corrected. From then on, Kobe, James and the others earn points that pulled their score away from the Spains' and give the US their victory. Many has anticipated that this game would end that way. What else would you expect, it was just only the NBA superstars who are playing there. But if the match ended up otherwise, it would be such a disgrace and a shame to Kobe and Lebron...but I think that's way too far from happening..there was just a very little probability that they won't win. By the way, the game concludes with the awarding of medals.
The 2008 Olympics' closing ceremony terminates the longing of the Filipinos to get even a single medal in the said event. Throughout the competition, Philippines did not manage to take home a piece of medal. It happened not because our athletes are not good enough or they did not give their best, but because of lack of support from our government through financial aids, lack of training and equipments. Maybe we could have bring home some medals if our athletes have undergone adequate amount of training and if they were given enough support and value by the government. But if these things will not occur in the near future-four years from now to be precise, there will be no chance for the Philippines to get any medal in any sports events. We will remain on the bottom of the medal count tally having a 0 0 0 0 standing. :(

Uncle Sam's Decision

Paula is right when she advised the two "May the best man win." Both of them were really good and talented in their own ways. Both of them deserved the title. But there can only be one.
For that night, the contest will be divided into three rounds. The two Davids need to sing three songs. In Round 1, the song is chosen by Clive Davis. Cook will be the first to sing. Davis chose "I still Haven't Found what I'm Lookin' For" for Cook and "Don't Let the Sun Get Down on Me" for Archuleta. Both Paula and Randy like the performance of the two. Simon described Cook's performance as phenomenal and Archuleta's performance as the best he has done so far. Later he added that Round 1 goes to Archuleta.
In round 2, they need to sing their personal song choice. I don't know the title of Cook's song but he sang it pretty good. The song's tempo is really fast and most of the notes were really high. He did a great job hitting those high notes. Archuleta also did a good job singing his second song(I don't know the title eh). They both perform great in this round. Paula and Randy loved Archuleta's performance as well as Cook's. Ofcourse Simon, don't like the song choice of Cook and said he needed to do better with his third song. Surprisingly, he liked Archuleta's performance and he give to him the second Round.
For Round 3, I don't know the category eh...Cook sang "The World I Know" and Archuleta sang "Imagine". For me Cook's performance is just ok and David's is better than his. Simon said that it would be better if he sang his own version of "Billie Jean". The judges agree to me and Simon said that what we have witnessed is a knock out by Archuleta. There ends the Last Performance Night.
To know who among the Davids has won, I need to wake up 8 in the morning to watch the Results in live telecast on the same channel. And yes, I did. I watched the show. After all their guests have performed, Cook was announced as the next American Idol. It was very surprising that he won after Simon have told that the performance night is won by Archuleta. Well, judges really don't have the power to decide, the decision is still in the hands of the viewers. Cook wins by 12 million votes. He then sings the winning song Time of my Life. The show ends there.
Actually in the earlier part of the show, Simon already gave a hint on who will be the winner. Before the show starts, he apologized to Cook for treating him very harsh the previous evening. He "realized" that Cook is really good after he watched again the performance of the two in his home. Why would he need to apologize to Cook? Because Cook will be soon declared as the new American Idol. It's not good to give negative comments on the winner's performance, right? :-D

All Work No Play

Time passed by so swiftly that I hardly noticed it's been an hour later since I stepped in on this populated internet cafe. Due to the fact that I am accompanied here with a swarm of shitheads, I can barely sense the coldness that I supposed to feel from the turned on air conditioner. I decided to lengthen my stay here until the moment I begin to feel my armpit damp with drops of salty sweat because I think that my blog needs a new entry after I abandoned it for a couple of weeks.
Keeping this post relevant and having an introduction regarding 'time', I'll probably just tackle on things about the word which is italized there(look up) coz I wanna forbid myself using words redundantly and 'ting' just now, in an instant as I write those words, my brain starts functioning, which is kinda unusual for me these past few days, a lesson from my favorite subject Biology flashed on my quaint mind.
Okay, let's get things started. As I can recall, thanks to my sharp memory, there is such thing as a Biological Clock but I just forgot what is it all about. Accessing what the brilliant technology has created, Wikipedia, the free online dictionary, defined the Biological Clock or the Circadian Rhythm as an approximate daily periodicity, a roughly 24-hour cycle in biochemical, physiological or behavioral processes of living beings. In simple terms, it's just like a time table of your daily works and behaviors. I, being part of the living world, also have a biological clock. I'm just not sure if mine really looks like one. Take a peek.
My clock begins ticking at...............

The schedule written above only applies during summer breaks. Hey, how many times did I use the word 'just' in this post?

Say 'Cheese'
There I found my topic for today's post. It was a column from Mrs. Lilles entitled Man of the Year, about a hilarious website where onliners can submit photos showing the "authority" that men have over women in its most comical way. Posted in her article were three winning pictures-two runners up and a grand prize. The 2nd runner up pic illustrates a young couple walking in the rain. The man walks coolly holding an umbrella to protect him while her girlfriend is just few steps away behind him busy balancing six crates of beer on her two hands. The girl's eyesight was blocked by the tower of beers she's holding, so in order to get a view of where she's headed to, she peers from the side of the crates making her look more miserable in that situation. The first runner up pic is a snapshot of a man and a woman riding on a boat. The overweight man is comfortably seated on the stern of the boat and is reclined, at ease smoking a stick of a cigarette. The woman on the other hand is seated at the fore raised upward because of the man's weight (the boat looks like a see-saw, the man below, woman on top) is at labor rowing away to keep the boat going. The champion's pic is about another young couple again but this time camping. A two-person tent is fixed on the ground. The man was inside the tent, having his good sleep. Lain down beside him is his bicycle. He's even embracing his bike. Where is her girlfriend?, Oh..she's also having her nap but due to lack of space in the tent, she is asleep outside, having no blanket that would protect her from the cold wind but atleast she had a sleeping bag with her. (The best!). I found myself laughing seeing those photos. It made me realize how dumb yet powerful men are and how stupid women are when it comes to relationships.lol.
The column writer's opinion, of course being part of the women group, is just that she felt upset on how men treat women and how stupid some women are. Quit laughing now and let's see the bad things flashed on those pics. On the couple walking in the rain, at first glance you would think that the man was a gentleman for he's holding the umbrella, but knowing that the girl was left behind him, makes him not. The writer agrees that the girl is really 100% stupid, saying what kind of woman would allow herself to be bullied into hauling six crates of beer with her bare hands, while her boyfriend walks leisurely ahead of her under an umbrella. She's only someone who doesn't have much of a brain. But, what if the girl really had the strength to carry those? why the heck not? but still the point is obvious. It's her fault. Even if she had that strength, she can reason out that she's still a girl not accustomed to do that thing and alike, and blame her boyfriend for being thoughtless. She can complain on how rude she was treated. She can put those crates down and yell at him, but she never did. She preferred to carry the beers single-handedly than to kick his boyfriend's ass.
The couple on the boat has a different story maybe. The man looks so scary (like a capre, with his weight and cigar) and he really looks like the boss, sitting pretty having his cigarette break while the girl; his slave doing the the hardwork rowing the boat. I think for this instance, I can't say the girl is stupid like the first. The girl has no choice, she could do nothing. Due to the fear she felt that if she didn't row the boat, the man would easily throw a punch on her and kick her out of the boat leaving her on the lake, she continue what she's doing even if she didn't have an intention to do so at the first place. It can't be denied that most likely it would happen if the girl stopped rowing, with the man's weight and built!?. She couldn't even escape, where would she go, they're in the middle of the lake? She accepted things the way they were and do anything she could though she never want it to.
The champion photo was really worth the prize. The man sleeping soundly cuddling his bike while his poor girl asleep outside the tent, unprotected from any form of elements. They're both to be blamed. The man for being disrespectful and inconsiderate to prefer a bike over a girl to sleep beside him. What can make a bike more valuable that his girlfriend's life? Asshole. And that stupid girl, for letting it happen. She somehow deserved what she got for her stupidity. She could not let that happen, she could yell at her boyfriend and scare him that she would rather split with him than to sleep outside. And even if the man has chosen the bike over her, she could kick her boyfriend's ass and leave, go home or sleep comfortably somewhere else than to take a nap outside the tent uneasily. She's an idiot for not doing so. She desired to sleep outside while she can see her boyfriend having a deep sleep with his bike, ignoring her presence at all than to leave the f****** man there and sleep at ease somewhere else. She had all the choices but she didn't take one. Her being stupid is really incomparable. She's worth a statue or a plaza named after her for being one.
See, how these women bare their stupidities. I don't know if in those pics, the men really had the power over those girls. Whatever, basta it only proves one thing: that we, men are the dumbest creatures living in the world and women are the most stupid organisms the God has created. I am not saying that all women are, some or most of them put themselves in situations they never wanted to be in. But because of loose bolts in their heads, most of the time they do.
Actually, they can easily quit out of those situations but they never did. Is it for the sake of love, that they don't do so? I guess it's not, it's more of idiocy. Seems like a picture is developed every time a dumb man meet a stupid woman.... :-D
PS
Actually, my original title for this is similar to the last sentence of this post, partly rephrased. 'When Mr. Dumb Meet Ms. Stupid, A picture develops' was the first thing that crossed my mind but I just don't feel comfortable having a longer title, I prefer a two-to-three-word title more that's why all of my entry's title here are comprised of four words or less. Just explaining

Can't Keep Promises
It was a tradition in our place that everytime the feast of Sto. Nino is about to come, the Tondo people need to put banners or any colorful designs up on each street. Most of the banners I see were made up of plastic such as various colors of plastic bags, plastic strips, recycled aluminum foils, empty sachets of bleaching powders and anything that when held up high looks beautiful and attractive to the eye. Our street's banners are just plastic bags; the plastic used in packing of sugar and rice in sari-sari stores. I don't know where they get the idea that its color is the same as this text's. For those who can't imagine how these banners look like, the pink plastic bags are aligned and are attached to a long pink plastic straw (can imagine now ?). THEY made it just yesterday, and I am emphasizing the word THEY because I was not able to help my neighbors in attaching the bags for I was busy watching the UAAP volleyball (UST def DLSU) in studio23 and I don't want to do it either for I know they don't need any kind of help from me and besides, there's too many of them, no more room available for me to help.
They finished putting the banners up around 6 in the evening. I look at it this morning and I find it good and beautiful but it would have been better if it's not pink geez. In Lallana, a street near ours, I'm just speculating why their banners are not the traditional fishnets(lambat), because every year that street has the most beautiful banner because fishnets really look good hanging on the road. I don't know what happened, why they prefer silver plastic strips instead of their fishnets. Whatever. That's not my concern anyway.
Fiesta na naman, it only means plenty of mouth-watering foods again...and it seems like I won't be able to burn those holiday fats I gained last year as I pledged. Looks like the saying is right, promises are really meant to be broken. :(

Stainless Longganisa
I don't know if these jokes can make you laugh or atleast make you smile. I guess if you don't, then I have proven one thing "mababaw lang ang kaligayahan ko". I easily get hooked to those simple hilarious words. Take a peek on the things listed on his column.

From this day on, I'll take care of my pen; see what would happen in case we lost our ballpens. This made me realized how important my ballpen is.
I would like to acknowledge Bob Ong for giving me an idea of what's this post's title should be. I remembered his fifth book, if I'm not mistaken, its title is the same as this post's, he referred ballpens as such. For those who don't know him, he's the author of ABNKKBSNPLAKO?, Bakit Baligtad Magbasa ng Libro ang mga Pilipino?, Paboritong Libro ni Hudas, Alamat ng Gubat and Stainless Longganisa. I really like all his books especially the third one and I don't know if he got a new one...just inform me..:D

Unwanted Comeback
It is now time to wave goodbye to those happy times we had last December and say hello to 2008 this January. Though we have welcomed the new year with big smiles, I don't think we could still have those when we realized what this new year has brought back to us.
New year means goodbye celebration days and nights. No more time for friendly gimmicks and lakwatsas. No more feast-like dinners on our tables, no more putobumbong and bibingka, no more simbang gabi where you could go outside your house even in late nights, no more everything we had during the break because schooldays and working days are making their comebacks now. It's over, it is really over (deep breaths). I can see my bag and paperworks greeting me Hi, saying they missed me this past few weeks, and my shoes approaching me, saying Hey!..put me on your feet, let's go to school now. Ahhhhhh *%#*&^%. My days will become stressed again this time. Schoolstuffs are returning on my way now and so are the lab works, problem sets and long exams. F*** $***. No more long sleeps now, instead my nights would be endless doing the prob sets and reviewing for exams. If during the break I could wakeup late, now I must set my eyes open at early morn; earlier than a rooster should. I would hear that loud alarm of my cellphone again waking me up even if I don't want to. Hhhhhaaaa. Why can't they make the Holiday break a bit longer?!..
Reality check...this is really it even if i don't want to, there is nothing I can do to stop it besides, I missed UP and my profs (lightning and thunderclaps strike consecutively !!!!!) My days will get busier this time. I will begin and end my days full with thoughts on my head about school (saklap). I want to feel it's still break; no doubt I'm still in a vacation mood...:(
Well, I have more time now to burn these holiday fats I gained though.:D
