UAAP's Funniest Moments

I am again trapped on this lazy afternoon, finding there's nothing left to do that could kill this seemingly endless time. My body seated in a metal chair, got immobilized for quite some time, my eyes glued at the flat computer monitor and my mind stuffed with spacious blank. This posture of mine get distracted after a piercing Mike Cosa sound penetrate my dumb ear. It was then that I realized, I am once again in my favorite position collecting random bizarre thoughts in my head to come up with a subject for this blog.

UAAP, the last post's topic is one of the things that flashed on my mind when I am on that statue mode couple of minutes ago. Watching basketball games wasn't my interest before, but as I scrutinized myself lately, I slowly become hooked in watching such games. I believed it started when I watched the last NBA finals where Celtics won over Lakers, and since then, I began watching other basketball games like the Olympics and the UAAP. Though my school is part of the UAAP, I don't find myself to fancy seeing basketball matches in the past seasons, but now is a less different, the word 'less' being emphasized for though I watch basketball games now, I still don't consider myself to be a basketball fanatic. But the recently UAAP season's final interests me a lot, because it's a La Salle-Ateneo match and so I must see it no matter what...and I did yesterday, the Eagles have won. There's a sports event in the UAAP where I always see to it that I won't miss it. I'll just going to reveal it later on my next posts because I am going to write one about that before that particular sports event starts.

Now, that 71st season of the UAAP is about to end- actually it's too early to say it's near to end, for there are still five remaining months before the official closing, I just wanna share what I read on a Candy magazine, August issue about the happy candid moments it captured during the UAAP basketball days. It's about the funny things experienced by the supporters or fans of different UAAP-participating schools every basketball games in the Araneta.

Take a look on their stories, you might as well remember that you were once in on the same hilarious situations they've been through.........

Mistaken Identity:

I was at the championship match between Ateneo and La Salle. Since I happened to get courtside tickets with my friends, I was hoping to get an autograph from my favorite player. I had a big crush on him! After the game, I rushed towards the players' bench and called out his name. He smiled and came towards me. I have mixed feelings of nervousness and excitement. Handing him both pen and paper, I said, "Can you get my autograph?" he gave me a surprised look but took the pen and signed anyway. He said goodbye and headed for the dugout. it was only then that I realized what I said!Ack! I instantly turned red all over. I still can't quite forgive myself for such a big booboo.

Close-Up Moment:

I was once picked to be the Kamiseta Girl for a UAAP game. I was so psyched that I forgot to check how I look in front of the mirror. While the camera was rolling, the cameraman kept on pointing at his teeth. I though that meant for me to smile wider so I did. After that shot, he went up to me and said, "Miss, may hotdog ka sa ngipin." I immediately checked, and true enough, a chunk of meat from my hotdog sandwich was stuck in between my teeth!

VIP Treatment:

My friends and I got hooked on UAAp games last year. Since we had never watched a game, my friend's dad got us courtside seats! We were quite psyched because we were so near the players. in the last quarter, people began to crowd right in front of us. I was so irritated because I couldn't see what was happening. In my frustration, I yelled at the person who was standing right in front of me, "Excuse me nga!, we can't see anymore!" The guy turned around and he happened to be the coach.

Secret Love:

I was rooting for the Green Archers but had a huge crush on one of the players from Ateneo. While I was watching one of their intense games, my crush made a 3-point shot and looked totally cute. I couldn't contain myself and let a loud cheer!Everyone beside me gave me pissed-off looks! I wanted the ground to swallow me up alive.

Falling For You:

After the game between UE Warriors and UP Maroons, I approached a player who happened to be my crush. I asked him if we could have our pic taken. He gladly agreed and even asked me to stand beside him. As I excitedly strolled towards him, I stepped on a wet spot and fell flat on my face. I turned bright red and couldn't speak!

For The Pee-rst Time:

I had never watched a live UAAP game before. With my incessant pangungulit, my brother finally agreed to take me to one. In the middle of the game, I felt the urge to go to the bathroom. Since I didn't know where the restrooms were, I asked my brother to take me, but he told me to wait for a time-out. I couldn't hold it in any longer so I peed right then and there.

Tag, You're It!:

At a game, there were kids behind us who were super kulit. I was getting annoyed because they are incredibly noisy and kept running back and forth. At first, I didn't mind them, but when the other kid used a water gun to play, I abruptly stood up and asked them to stop. After my short sermon, the naughty kid splashed water on my face and ran away!

Spit It:

My bestfriend is such a clown! While watching one of the UAAP games, he kept making faces and stupid comment on our opponent's play. While I was drinking my iced tea, he made a really funny face and I ended up spitting my iced tea on the girl in front of me. You could guess how mad she was at me!

------Alexis, 22

Oops, My Bad:

I had an upset stomach while watching the Ateneo-La Salle game last season. i tried to make myself feel better so I could enjoy the game. I took the medicine my boyfriend bought me and soon, the pain started to lessen. But at the half time, I farted so loudly and it smelled so bad! I tried to cover it up but my boyfrined couldn't stop laughing.

------Yuko, 19

Busted!:

My friend had great seats for the Ateneo-La Salle game, but unfortunately I was grounded. My friends talked me into lying and sneaking out. I did just that and my mom believed that I was in school doing group research. We were seated just behing the sports commentators' table, and TV cameras were all around us. Upon arriving home, my mom was furious with me! She taped the game for me and actually saw me on TV.

------Marco, 17

Hush!:

I'm a big fan of Ateneo team and I make it a point to watch all of their games. For a game against UST, tickets were sold out. I wanted to watch so badly that I bought a ticket to a seat on the side of the opposing school. At the game, I was so frustrated that I couldn't cheer loud enough because I was so blueamidst the yellow and black. i began mocking the other schools's cheer, which was originally "Go, go tigers, the mighty, mighty tigers!" I started shouting "Go, go lions!" Then people started shooting me angry looks! So I spent the remaining time watching the game quietly.

I really found myself laughing while reading the article. It's humiliating when you found yourself in hilarious situations where first of all you never dreamed to be in-when almost all the people around you staring, laughing making fun at your poor condition and it's even worse when you discovered that your mortifying act was caught in camera and being watched by millions of TV viewers. After that, you'll just find yourself hiding in your room, avoiding any close contact from anyone who has witnessed your "scandal" and having a busy time listing that event under your most embarassing moment in your friend's slambook... :-)

PS

I wasn't lying about the fact that I got this article from the August issue of the Candy magazine, but if you're wondering that you didn't read about it on the same magazine and speculating that I might be not telling the truth, I just forgot to mention that it was indeed an article from the Candy, but it was released on 2005. Ciao.

Eternal Rivals

Here's the continuation of my last post......

Couple of weeks have passed after the victorious Cheerdance competition, the UAAP Basketball Finals seemed to be the next sought-after contest. Why not, the fact that the rival schools La Salle and Ateneo will fight against the championship title makes it a must-see match. Yeah....you heard me right, the rivalry will live once again after six long years in the heart of Araneta Coliseum. No doubt, bunch of respective supporters from the two universities wearing blue and green would fill the entire Araneta. It always happened everytime the two has a match, and it happened on the first game of the Finals last Monday, September 22.

Lasallians and Atenians crowded the Araneta, they're wearing shirts colored with their respective school's colors-either blue or green...as anticipated. Just a recap, for this entire season's elimination rounds, La Salle didn't manage to grab a win from the two matches against Ateneo. That fact would just aggravate the La Salle's hunger to win over Ateneo, but as I watched the game, as usual on TV, it didn't turned out to be that way. La Salle's fighting spirit is kinda low that they got intimidated by Ateneo's defense tactics. DLSU was less aggressive primarily because of ADMU's awesome defense. Blue-shirted players properly guarded the green-shirted ones, giving Maierhofer and Casio a hard time to shoot their goals. Casio is well-guarded by the eagles that he seldom throw his signature 3-point shots. On the other side, with excellent defense combined with fast-paced plays and points from Al-Hussaini, no doubt that Ateneo won the first game, giving them their 50% chance to snatch the title from the defending La Salle and the Archers need to be at their 200% on the second deciding game. It was plainly a game of high defense. Sometimes, defense can really won a match, Game 1 is a proof of that.

Unlike the first game, Game 2 was an extremely emotional one. Not the kind that would touch your sensitive heart to the point that would make you cry a river. The dominating emotion shown was primarily wrath, one of the seven deadly sins. The match was like a picture depicting a battle between hot-headed players, the one who gets more pissed-off wins. Player teasing the opponent's supporters, fans booing their rival school's players, player mocking a player of the other team, audience cheering louder than the opponent's cheer, player questioning the referee's call, coach confronting the referee about the call.....these are just some of the scenarios you could see on the game. You can't really avoid having this type of match especially if it's as crucial as this. Everyone was so emotional. Everyone's temper is at it's peak.....maybe above it's peak.?

The game starts with a call that the MVP Al-Hussaini has committed an offensive foul, which was immediately questioned by the player himself and coach Norman Black. After few plays, the referee again called a foul against the MVP, making his second foul on just the first quarter of the match. That's when Black threw his ID frustrated and do some talk to the official....whewww....What a flaring atmosphere the Aranet had that day!..as if I'm feeling the intense heat coming from our TV.....Al-Hussaini left the court because of early foul trouble....Eagles haven't earned a point yet for early part of first quarter, giving the Archers the advantage......but suddenly, La Salle began commiting fouls and some technicals were called against them....giving Ateneo the opportunity to tie the score. .....Though it was a MVP-less team, the Eagles somehow manage to surpass the Archer's points, making them ahead by a small lead. Ateneo's awesome defense make the La Salle's Maierhoffer and Casio a hard time to gain some score.......while Ateneo's Tiu, Baclao and Rookie of the Year Buenafe keep on collecting some points till their lead grows greater than 10............I think in 3rd quarter Ateneo continue to pull away from La Salle and Taft-based cagers are having a difficult time to chase the eagles's score as the referee begin calling foul against Casio and Maierhoffer. There was no quiet time in the match. Correct me if I'm wrong, I believed it was in the 4th quarter where Maierhoffer was forced to leave the court due to some technicalities. He allegedly point a "dirty finger" sign to someone, which is not clearly viewed in the 'replay'......It's really hard to see if he really did that gesture or not....the tape's too fuzzy but still the committee decided to take him out of the game. He then leaves the match disappointed...feeling that he lose the chance of helping his team defend their title. The match has to go on...and so it did. Ateneo brought back their MVP and grabbed the chance to take a bigger lead. The sizzling hot match finally ended. Ateneo has managed to snatch the Championship title from their rivals......giving them a time to party while leaving the La Salle grieving from their loss and having their eyes scorching to take their sweet vengeance next year.

Let's see what would happen next season..Will Ateneo has the capability to defend their title against their rival and sweep them again? or Will La Salle finally take the sweetest revenge from Ateneo?

PS

or will UP finally get to the top of team standings sweeping both La Salle and Ateneo?....is this a silly joke or what?..........that would never happen......ever!

Cheer UP

Here I am again, doing some garbage talk on this piece of crap called blog. Finding that I now have an ample time to write whatever shit that would hit my rarely-used mind. Writing something here would help me cope with this boredom I'm feeling this very moment, besides I had lots of news to share now which are supposed to be shared a couple of days ago but as I said, today is the only day that I have find time to drop by again. So I don't know if what I have to tell you now is still fresh and new to you.

Due to the fact that it happened lots of days ago, I can't recall the day when I watched the UAAP cheer dance competition on TV. Call me poor for I can't afford to take a seat in the Araneta, I don't care, sometimes truth really hurts. But FYI, even if I had I don't think I would go there and catch the competition live primarily because I don't know when was it scheduled and the fact that my body is comprised of lazybones could justify me-not-being-there alone. I was just browsing the channel that afternoon when I saw it being telecast in Studio 23. I believed it was the De La Salle cheering squad who is performing that moment when I decided to stick my eyes on that channel. Lucky me, they were the first to perform giving me the chance to see all the participating universities' performances. And I do watch them all. If I'm not mistaken the order of performances is 1.DLSU, 2.UST, 3.UP, 4.FEU, 5.ADU, 6.NU, 7.ADMU, 8.UE....just correct me if there's something not on his proper place.

Wanna hear my comments on each school’s performance. Here it is...

DLSU - nothing extraordinary....looks like they're just rehearsing..

UST - good, but not that good...okay...last year was a lot better..

UP - OMG...fantastic, stunning, breath-taking performance, marvelous, magnificent...all possible positive adjectives written here......complaint?...love your own...but really it's the best...great new moves.....

FEU - left me hanging....waiting to witness any new moves but I feel kinda disappointed. I miss the 'Happy Feet' move last year...

ADU - most improved. good liftings and throwings.... literally, unexpectedly good

NU - don't have time to watch it....it made me shift to other channels..

ADMU - boring as always.....nothing spectacular.

UE - waste of my time...... the umbrella thing is the only good part, the rest..a crap.

No hard feelings present when I described their performances there. Don't feel indignant if your school got a criticism from me, that was just my perception of what I saw, you can give your own too but I assure you, you can criticize all the schools except yours and my UP for you also labeled it the best or if not, the second place ofcourse I already know that your school is the first for you. No more questions asked when they won again, two times in a row. UP's originality really rocks.!!!!..I liked when the green and red cloth cover the whole pep squad then couple of minutes later, the cloths were removed leaving the squad in the center in a fantastic statue post. And I liked it when they do that thing again but this time the whole squad exiting hidden on the cloths leaving their pom-poms on the floor arranged as letter U and P and a man posing as OBLE. It was totally hilarious seeing that guy who impersonates OBLE.

The show ends leaving me entertained and happy ofcourse. It's really timely that UP won the contest. By that, I'll feel satisfied that they won atleast one competition in the entire season 71 of UAAP. I am not saying that that's the only sports event in UAAP where UP managed to win, I am just not sure and I don't have any news that they won in any other sports events but I'm still hoping that they do. Just give it to UP, cheerdance is our territory, it's where we excels more. UST, UE,ADMU,DLSU already had the authority and the right to win a championship in basketball coz I can see that it's still a high mountain to climb for UP to get to the top of the team standings.....poor basketball team, I know there will come a time where we'll be on the no. 1 spot but I'm just not sure when will it happen....perhaps a decade later....why not......it's just 10 years from now:-)

PS

this post is purportedly long, my recap of Ateneo-La Salle final games should have been included here but after seeing it published in a messy way.....I don't know why, maybe I exceeded the limit of the number of words this entry could hold so I decided to incise it into 2 parts. The rivals' matches were briefly detailed on the succeeding post.

Don't Ask the Waiter

This post should have been here months ago, way earlier than my last post but due to the problems I have stated in my previous post, I am just going to post this post now, because I can't leave this post unposted? for I found this post really postable? and worth posting. gets?...lol... Don't mind me. Looks like a new word of the day has emerged.

As I was saying, I can't let this post unposted? for this post....shut up..quit keep saying the word! (annoyed?)..ok..as I was saying this article should have been written here before for its medical significance. Let's now cut to the chase and go straight to the topic. I read an article on a health magazine my cousin has brought from Recto. It is entitled "Do They Practice What They Preach?.", a report about on do medical experts or doctors practice what they told to their patients to do. Specifically, it concerns more on whether they consider the foods they prescribed to their patients to eat, to be on their own meals or not. But as I read the article, I found that they do consider it, they really have a healthy diet which I wish I could have too.The writer interviewed three medical professionals. First a Cardiologist, who specializes on heart and cardiac muscles, second is a Diabetologist, who studies diabetes and the last is an Oncologist, the one who treats cancers. The writer investigates the three's diet.

**Antonio Sibulo, the heart expert among the three, said that their household doesn't go for meat, about 80 percent of what he eat is fish and vegetables. His daily meal is comprised of.....

>>>for breakfast, he prefer scrambled eggs minus the yolks. Do you know that egg's cholesterol is concentrated on the yolk? Along with this is a small amount of rice for his carbo supply.

>>>his lunch is just two spoonful of rice and vegetables.

>>>for merienda, he gives himself a license to break away from his low carbohydrate diet by treating himself in moderation to some puto seko or rice cake. He explained that he avoid cookies and processed foods for they are reach in transfatty acids. These acids cause coronary diseases. On weekends, he goes for kesong puti since it has lower cholesterol than any other types of cheese.

>>>his dinner is basically fish that is either fried in canola oil or olive oil or cooked in sinigang broth. He tries to avoid cake and too much sweets, preferring fruits for dessert instead.

>>>He said that he is not an apple or a banana person, his favorites are chico, atis and watermelon. His favorite drink is fresh melon that has been blitzed in juicer and taken straight up without sugar or milk.

>>>He also enjoys red wine, letting himself to take it three times a week. Studies show, moderate consumption of wine can offer cardiac protection.

>>>He prefer tea than coffee for it has a higher antioxidant properties. He doesn't use multivitamins and limits his sodium intake.

>>>"Cardiovascular disease doesn't happen overnight. It's a long process, a gradual build up of factors. You have to invest (in good nutrition habits) early in life. Hindi pwedeng pagdating ng 60 bago ka maguumpisa.", he said.

**The diabetologist, Ricardo Fernando also shared his dietary habits. Enumerated below are the dishes he took daily......

>>>He starts his day with a breakfast of bread that's thinly spread with peanut butter (no sugar added) or Cheese Whiz, perhaps an egg and a glass of juice, usually unsweetened pineapple.

>>>When going to his office, he practically run and don't use elevators.

>>>"Stay away from baboy, baka - all four-footed animals - mantika, taba, asukal at honey. That means avoiding butter, margarine, mayonaise, cheese and foods that are ginisa (sauteed) or pinirito (fried), as much as possible. Cooking oil should be used sparingly.", he warned.

>>> His dishes are either nilaga, sinigang, inihaw, pinakbet or pesa because he believed that once fats enter the body, they are broken into free fatty-acids (FFA). The pancreas cannot tell where the FFA came from, whether it's from the good, the bad or the intermediate, as they call it. Fatty-acids in big amounts are not good for the beta cells of Islets of Langerhans, the ones concerned with diabetes. Apoptosis could happen, meaning beta cells will die.

>>>He is particularly aversive to cooking by microwave. He stated that microwave produces oxidants. Even water is converted into H2O2, which is an oxidant. The number one culprit in the generation of cancer is microwave. It causes cancer, diabetes, hypertension, heart and kidney diseases. "Maraming kasalanan yan.", he exclaimed. He emphasized that sudden intense heat converts food, especially fats into oxidants. This method also applies to fast foods.

>>>What's on his menu most of the time is fish, vegetables and chicken, ideally the breast with its skin removed prior to cooking. He accompanies them with rice, restricted to one cup.

>>>His snacks could be as varied as a bowl of nilugawang manok, a reasonable amount of fruits, a serving of veggies such as singkamas and cucumber dipped in vinegar, a cup of sugar-free gulaman (his favorite) or a can of chocolate-flavored Glucerna.

>>>He takes Chinese green tea over coffee most of the time, in order to benefit from the ancient's drink anti-oxidant properties.

>>>He stressed out that dinner should always be the lightest meal of a diabetic. He consumes less than a cup of rice in the evening. Actually, it makes sense. It cuts down on calories on the last meal of the day since the succeeding waking hours is when the body expends the least amount of energy.

>>>Closing the interview, he said "The average Filipino when he dies is 68, according to NSO, so I treat my patients up to 68, so he still has good eyes, hindi siya nai-stroke, naba-by-pass, nada-dialysis and he still has two good feet. After 68, 70, they can choose to die early with complication or die later. It's a matter of their personal philosophy in life. Sabi nga sa akin ng pasyente ko na 90 yrs. old na, si Senator Salonga, iho, sa edad kong ito, wala ng bawal bawal. How else do you want me to die?."

**Romulo de Villa, the oncologist was the last one who give his piece. The details after this sentence are taken from him.....

>>>He begins his day by drinking two glasses of water. He explained that it hydrates the body and washes the digestive system. It's a healthy habit to do so one hour before breakfast, and preferably before every meal. One more thing he never misses to drink every morning is one of New Zealand's full-cream powdered milk. He elaborates that studies show that those who consume short-chain fatty acids--butyric acid--found in the cream of the milk have reduced risk of colon cancer. They nourish the lining of the colon and strengten it. 20 % of the fat from milk is butyric acid. Also another fat in the milk is conjugated linoleic acid, which is an anticarcinogenic.

>>>His breakfast is primarily mixed red and brown rice, plus two eggs, always boiled and never fried. "Avoid frying especially with unsaturated oils. Studies show that when you heat unsaturated oils, they turn into bad oil, lipid peroxide.", he exclaimed.

>>>He described his diet predominantly fruits and vegetables. He detailed that fruits and veggies promote the growth of healthy gastrointestinal flora, the good bacteria in the intestines feed on the fiber of fruits and vegetables, fermenting them in the process. When they do that, they generate butyric acid. The bifidus bacteria--lactobacilli--produce butyric acid and most of them reside in the colon keeping it healthy.

>>>He revealed that he would eat beef, but not pork, after discovering that while pork has unsaturated fats, its proportion of omega 3 to omega 6--the two types of unsaturated fats--is of an unhealthy proportion. Ratio should be 1:1 to 1:4, borderline is 1:6 but pork is 1:9.

>>>He also said that pork is more inflammatory because of the excess omega 6, which from what he knows in biochemistry, is more inflammatory than omega 3.

>>>To identify who has a higher fat quantity, beef or pork, he conducted a home-based experiment. He boiled a quarter kilo of each meat separately and bottled their broth. He found out, from the surface, mas malaki yung sebo ng beef, but when you look at the side--fat is not just the sebo, it's the oil--mas makapal yung oil sa pork and he did it twice to confirm.

>>>The writer discovered that shrimps and shellfish are not on de Villa's plate. According to the oncologist, these types of seafood, which live at the bottom of the river mouth where factories are positioned, are exposed to industrial waste products. Fish, such as salmon, is a healthier alternative. He prefers it cooked in water or sushi style.

That's it. I think I would close this blog writing just a few words from me since I noticed that this post seems to be the longest post I posted ever....(stop!!!, before I start using the word 'post' redundantly again!!).. Okay, I hope this one helped you somehow. For the easily-tensed and always mad high-blood people, for the not so-sweet one-footed diabetics, and for the nearly bald lumpy cancer patients..just a piece of advise from a caring citizen --very caring indeed!..I dare all of you to walk a mile on the three doctors' shoes respectively, and see what would happen....Maybe one day, on the road you'll observed that you are not the easily-tensed and always mad high blood person anymore but rather an optimistic and a cheerful one, you are no longer the not so-sweet diabetic for you already found the right spice that would sweeten your being but the fact that you still need to stand with just a foot and a saklay remains... atleast you knew that you wouldn't see yourself walking with your two bare hands or with a pair of saklay (thinking that I'll write a wheelchair here?...in your dreams, you don't have the money to afford one) in the near future for you have saved the only thing which keeps you standing still.(drama...), and lastly you are not the lumpy and nearly-bald cancer patient anymore, coz' you find yourself now stunningly beautiful without the aching lumps that you used to have, and alluring for possessing the long shining silky hair that you have aspired long ago.You could make your ultimate dream come to reality now..Go, get your hair ready..coz you are going to be the next sought-after hair shampoo commercial model-extra. Just kidding........

So the next time you eat on a classy restaurant, don't call the waiter for the menu, ask the doctor instead. Waiters would just present you all the scrumptious foods that would water your mouth most of which are hazardous to your own health. You can't blame them though, it's part of their job. I have nothing against waiters, it's just that I was trying to relate this post to it's title. Doctors on the other hand, would offer the healthiest meals to you, most of which are not delectable and not so delightful and enjoying to eat compared to the restaurant's. Some could turn your stomach upside down. That's true...I totally agree. But one thing is for sure, doing the latter would make you inhale more oxygen molecules for a longer period of time.

Okay I'll cut this crap, It's pretty longer than I thought it would be..We're getting away from the topic. Ciao.

Told you, just a few words... :-)

PS

Sorry for the adjectives used. Peace!!
